December/January Home Comfort Check List

For many of us, December and January are months of celebrations, family gatherings and vacactions. But if you are walking around your home and wondering about how you could feel comfortable and still keep a few dollars in your family’s pocket, Family Danz Heating and Air Conditioning has a few suggestions.

Whether you heat with oil or gas, you can save on your fuel and repair cost by doing a few simple things. Have your heating system cleaned and maintained on a yearly basis; Have the burners taken out and cleaned; Have the heat exchanger checked for safety; Make sure that venting is in proper working condition.

Use a Programmable Thermostat to save the average home anywhere from 3%-5% on your fuel bill. Lowering the temperature in your home while you are away at school or work only makes sense to your checkbook.

If you have forced-air heating and air conditioning duct, Check them once a year for leaks and seal them with silicon or duct tape; Routinely vacuum the dust from the return and supply grills; Change filters as required by the manufacturer’s recommendations; and Have your ducts and heating system professionally cleaned on an annual basis.

The air in your home is drier than you think! Dry air robs the moisture from your skin, making you feel colder, which means you will turn up your thermostat to increase the temperature in your home – thus you will increase fuel costs. Installing a whole house humidifier will make your home feel comfortable and reduce your utility cost.
