It’s the time of year when the temperatures start to drop, so get the kids together and have them play a scavenger hunt for various places where there are signs of heat loss in your home. They probably won’t recognize them immediately themselves without some guidance, so it’s a good chance to teach them what to look for in a fun way that is sure to make an impression. Make a list of some trouble signs, like:
1.) A crack in a window
2.) Draft coming through the window
3.) Condensation inside the window glass
4.) Draft coming from under the door
5.) Cold floors
6.) Drafty radiator vents
7.) Cold walls
8.) An open window
9.) A door left ajar
10.) Unused areas in the home that don’t really need to be heated
11.) Obstructions to heating vents
12.) Dirt or dust coming from a heating vent
13.) Signs of mold or mildew anywhere in the home
Be sure to use your own imagination and your own observations to add more target areas based on your home situation.
