While you should refer to state reopening guidelines for complete information, we’re sharing some information that hopefully makes MERV a bit easier to understand.

As we mentioned above, a MERV rating is the Minimum Efficiency Reporting Value of an air filter. According to the EPA, “MERVs report a filter’s ability to capture larger particles between 0.3 and 10 microns.” This helps people when comparing how different filters will perform. HEPA filters, for instance, boast a high MERV rating and therefore are a good choice for businesses that need to ensure filtration with ratings between MERV 11-13. HEPA stands for high-efficiency particulate air filter, and in theory removes at least 99.9 percent of dust, pollen, mold, bacteria, and all other airborne particles with a size of 0.3 microns.
