Time for a New Furnace?

There might not be so scary a proposition for home and business owners in the Albany, N.Y. area than trying to decide if they need a new furnace, especially in the midst of a cold Capital District winter. Unless you have extensive training in the heating field, the question of the life expectancy of that furnace is not an easy one to answer on your own.

Never fear, because that’s why Family Danz Heating & Cooling is here. We have the training needed to examine your heating system and tell you whether you are good for snow or if it should go. Let us put our nearly four decades of experience to work for you, and take the guesswork out of it.

If you have a furnace that is pushing 20 years old, it’s likely time to give us a call. And don’t wait until it finally dies to start shopping — looking for a new furnace is not likely what many people would call “fun,“ but needing one under emergency conditions is never a pleasurable experience.

Other signs that it is time to start looking for a new furnace include:

  • Unusual sick feelings of family in the home or employees in the workplace. Older furnaces can leak carbon monoxide, an odorless and colorless poisonous gas. Signs of this include nausea, headaches, disorientation, and general flu-like symptoms. Hopefully, you have a carbon monoxide detector somewhere nearby to alert you to this potential killer. If it sounds, call the fire department first — and Family Danz after everyone is safe.
  • An unusual amount of furnace repairs. As the furnace reaches its last days, it will need more and more repairs to keep it up and running. At the same time, the older the furnace, the harder it will be to find parts to repair it. You won’t want to keep throwing money into it that simply acts as a bandage while it is dying a slow death.
  • Strange noises. No, your home or workplace isn’t haunted — that’s just your furnace telling you it is getting ready to be replaced. You might hear odd bangs, squeals, and rattling while it operates, or you might hear the blower running excessively or turning off and on more frequently. These are all signs that the furnace at least needs to be looked at, and might need to be replaced.
  • A substantial increase in energy bills not reflected by any increase in unseasonable weather. Unless you‘ve had severe cold temperatures that have driven your heating system usage up significantly, you are probably looking at a loss of efficiency. The plus side is the savings you will see there will help pay for the new furnace.

Family Danz will not only help you pick out the best heating system for your own situation, but our experienced technicians will install it with the same proficiency. You can rest assured you’ll be comfortable no matter what the winter brings thanks to a brand-new furnace backed by our nearly 40 years of heating service expertise.
