- A substantial increase in energy bills not reflected by any increase in unseasonable weather. Unless you‘ve had severe cold temperatures that have driven your heating system usage up significantly, you are probably looking at a loss of efficiency. The plus side is the savings you will see there will help pay for the new furnace.
