Summertime Means AC Time

At Family Danz Heating & Cooling, we consider all of our customers as part of the family. And as part of the family, we want you to be safe even in the hottest of the summer heat.

The dog days of summer will soon return to Troy and the entire Capital District of New York, and with them comes the chance of overexposure to the sun for people who spend a lot of time outside. Whether you work outdoors, or are outside enjoying the summer sunshine, you need to be on the lookout for signs of heat exhaustion.

The first signs of heat exhaustion are muscle cramps, profuse sweating, weakness, nausea, vomiting, headache, and lightheadedness. These are caused as the hot temperatures overwhelm the body’s natural ability to cool itself. Normally, your body can lower its own temperature by producing sweat, which then evaporates off the skin to cool you down. This process needs enough fluid in the body to create the sweat, plus the air circulation and a low enough air humidity to allow it to evaporate.

If you develop these symptoms, stop the activity and move to a cooler place. Rehydrate yourself with water or a sports drink, but if nausea or vomiting prevents the consumption of water, medical assistance may be needed. Gone untreated, this condition can lead to heat stroke if the body‘s temperature regulation system fails. Symptoms of heat stroke include confusion, lethargy, a total stop to the sweating, body temperatures in excess of 106 degrees, and even a seizure. This condition is life-threatening and emergency help should be called immediately.

We at Family Danz enjoy summer fun as much as the next person, but with fun in the sun comes the need to be aware of the damage that summer heat can do. Wherever you are in the outdoors of the Capital District of Albany, Schenectady, Saratoga, Troy, and the surrounding areas, be prepared with a cool beverage and the sanctuary of an air-conditioned room nearby.
