Cutting Your Heating Bills with Family Danz

Yep, a look at the calendar reveals that often-dreaded time of year has come. Summer’s over and it’s almost winter again in the Capital Region of New York State. Even if you don’t mind the blowing and snowing that accompanies the cold season, there’s likely one constant in the winter that nobody likes … that increase in the heating bill.

So, unless you have a major investment in your own energy provider, you probably want to do something about that.

We at Family Danz Heating & Cooling want to make sure you stay warm and comfortable all winter long without having to take out another mortgage to pay the heating bills. The first step is a call to us for a thorough inspection of your heating system to make sure it is working at maximum efficiency. Furnaces that are old and rundown waste energy and money, so maybe it’s time for an upgrade. We can take care of that for you, too.

Meanwhile, there are steps you can take yourself in the privacy of your home to make it more energy efficient. Make sure you have adequate caulking and weather stripping around doors and windows where your heat — and cash — will flow outside.  Check your heating vents to make sure they are clean and free of obstructions that will be in the way of the warm air getting through.

Replace the air filter in your furnace regularly to avoid buildup of dirt that will block the flow of the air and possibly damage the furnace. Make sure you have the proper amounts of insulation in walls, attics, and floors. Lower the temperature on your water heater to 120 degrees, or even lower, to avoid taking a bath on your energy bills.

One of the best ways to save is by having a programmable thermostat installed, and we would be happy to do that for you. That thermostat will make sure your home is tasty warm when you get home, but it will also lower the temperature when nobody is around so the energy doesn’t go to waste.
